Our Story

Republic of Fitness is proudly owned and run by Matthew Boccaccio and Yvonne Sweeney. Together, they bring a balanced approach to the business—Matthew leads the fitness and coaching side, while Yvonne looks after operations and administration, with a bit of nutritional coaching support and, of course, her role as chief meeter-and-greeter 😊
Republic of Fitness isn’t just a gym—it’s a community. With an eclectic mix of members and a relaxed, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere, it’s a place where people feel comfortable being themselves while working on their health and fitness.
Matthew’s Story:
“I joined the fitness industry after years of living with unhealthy habits. Over time, I found myself heading further down the wrong path, until I eventually hit rock bottom with my mental health.
Turning my life around began with focusing on my own fitness journey and diving into self-development. That process changed everything for me.
Republic of Fitness was born from the realisation that there are many people who can relate to my story. My goal was simple—to create an environment where anyone wanting to make a positive change could do so in a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space.
I’m now a father of five, and life is busy—as it is for so many people. That’s why it’s so important to me that Republic of Fitness offers flexibility, allowing our members to prioritise their health and fitness alongside everything else life throws at them.”

Yvonne’s Story:
“My journey with Republic of Fitness began a little later than Matthew’s—first as a client, then as a member of the team, and more recently as co-owner. It’s been quite an unexpected but great journey, and one that has given me a full-circle perspective on the business.
I had never really gone to a gym until I joined Republic of Fitness in my late thirties. As a mother of four wonderful children, that role had become my entire identity. I found myself stuck in a rut—something many parents can relate to—and I needed something just for me. I found that here.
I still remember how nervous I was walking through the doors for my very first class. There was no need, as it turned out, but that experience has stayed with me. Making sure people feel welcomed, comfortable, and safe when they walk through our doors is incredibly important to me. This is a space where you can move your body in whatever way makes you happy.
As my journey progressed, I developed an interest in nutrition and menopausal health. What started as learning to help myself has grown into being able to help others, and I’ve since completed courses in both areas.”

What We Do

Open Gym
A large fully equipped gym space with flexible access hours so that you can fit your workout in around your busy schedule. Kitted out with a large supply of resistance equipment, free weights & cardio machines. The team is always available to offer you advice and encouragement as you work towards reaching your goals.

Large Group Training
Our large group coaching sessions are led by an expert coaching team and incorporating, cardio, strength and mobility routines. These dynamic workouts offer you a high energy based session in a fun, empowering and motivating environment. Classes are suitable for all abilities, from beginner to pro and modifications can be made when needed.

Personal Training
Our 1:1 coaching sessions are designed specifically for your goals and needs, adapting and changing as you progress and get stronger. It's a supportive environment. Your goals will be continuously looked at and reviewed. Progress is measured and step by step you will be educated on how to build a healthier lifestyle.

Nutrition Coaching
Cleaning up your eating habits can help improve your body composition, energy and sleep. Our nutrition coaches can advise you on the best choices to make when it comes to food and drink. You will be given easy options to help you change from bad to great eating habits. If you are looking for long-term changes, rather than short term quick fixes, then our nutrition coaching is for you!

Fit3D Body Scanning
The Fit3D Scanner will take a 360° body scan and give you accurate measurements as well as posture analysis, body composition, body shape scoring and weight. Your scan will create a 3D avatar to help you visually track your progress from any device. You will be able to compare your baseline scan to any future scan so you can easily monitor, track and see the progress you're making toward your fitness goals!

MyZone Fitness Trackers
We use Myzone fitness tech here at Republic of Fitness – a fitness tracker pod and app to motivate you to move and achieve your goals inside and outside of the gym! Myzone is small and lightweight and measures your heart rate, calorie burn per workout, duration of your workout and your overall effort. It uses a points system called ‘meps’ so you can see just how hard you are working and monitor your progression as you work to reach and maintain your health and fitness goals.
Introducing Our Peach Builder Corner...
A dedicated space designed to help you strengthen, sculpt, and activate your glutes with purpose. Here, you’ll find a range of targeted machines that guide your movements for safe, effective workouts, whether you’re building strength, improving muscle tone, or enhancing overall lower-body performance.

Open Space
Hyrox / Deadly Dozen / Tryka
Our gym isn’t just a sea of machines — it’s a place to move. Alongside our equipment, you’ll find generous open floor space designed for mobility work, stretching, balance training, and the kind of free movement that keeps exercise joyful. You can even do cartwheels!
We’re fully equipped for HYROX, Deadly Dozen, and Tryka training and simulations, with everything you need to prepare properly for competition day. From a dedicated HYROX carpet to functional equipment and plenty of open space to run full event-style sessions, you can train exactly how you’ll race. Visiting the area? You’re welcome to drop in and use the gym — just get in touch with us to arrange access in advance.
